Many Glacier Area
The Many Glacier area is a little bit farther out of the way. From the St. Mary Lake area you have to travel out of the park and to the north. It is plenty scenic. The most popular view is from the Many Glacier Hotel. You can just sit and watch the sunrise or sunset unfold before you. It is most known as a sunrise view.
On the way to Many Glacier you pass Lake Sherburne. This lake is usually never still and clear but I got lucky a few mornings.
Grinnell Glacier is visited via a boat ride across Swiftcurrent Lake and Lake Josephine. Then you hike 3.9 miles on-way gaining 1600 feet before reaching the glacier. You can forgo the boat ride but that then adds a few more miles to the hike.
Another pleasant hike is to Iceberg Lake. This is reached via a 4.9 mile trail with 1600 feet of gain as well. Though longer, this hike seemed easier then hiking to Grinnell Glacier. Along the rail were many nice beargrass displays.
The last evening before I left I visited the Many Glacier area. By this time the wildfires were burning very badly. The whole Many Glacier area was choked with smoke. The smoke did make for some very unique images.
